Type 2, CCS2 or CHAdeMO: which plug fits your car?
Most public charge points in Europe have two plugs. Here is how to tell which one your car uses.
The two plugs almost every car uses
Type 2 is the standard plug in Europe for charging with alternating current (AC). At most public AC points you need your own Type 2 cable, although some have a cable attached.
CCS2 is the standard for fast charging with direct current (DC). It looks like a Type 2 plug with two extra contacts underneath, which is why a Type 2 plug also fits the CCS2 socket on your car when you charge with AC.
CHAdeMO and other plugs
CHAdeMO is a separate DC plug used by older Japanese cars. New models rarely have it, but many fast chargers still offer it. Type 1, CCS1 and GB/T belong to cars for other markets and are rare at public charge points in most European countries.
How to find your plug
Look at your car's charging socket: it shows the type of plug, and the manual gives the maximum power for AC and DC. Choose your plug in the GeoCharge profile and the map will show only the charge points that fit.
Newer Teslas sold in Europe have CCS2, so they charge at the same fast chargers as other cars.
How it works in this country
In Ireland Type 2 and CCS2 dominate, and CHAdeMO is still common at fast chargers. The table below shows the exact split.
